The Liberal Party announced that Mark Carney – who has the distinction of having served as governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England – will advise Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on economic matters.

Carney, who is currently chair of Brookfield Asset Management and Bloomberg LP, will serve as the chair of a Leader’s Task Force on Economic Growth, the Liberal Party said in a statement. He will develop ideas for “the next phase of Canada’s strategy for near- and longer-term economic growth and productivity” with the objective of creating “a pragmatic, focused, and high-impact vision for Canada’s economic success.”

Carney is being tasked with the job of writing a report following consultations with experts to help the party prepare for the next election.
