Our privacy policy applies to personal information that is collected by Means & Ways when you use our services (including our website or when signing up for our newsletter) (collectively, the “services”).

Means & Ways collects personal information from you in several ways. For example, we collect information that you provide to us, through your use of the Services, as well as information collected from publicly available sources or third parties.
Information that you provide
When you subscribe, register, or otherwise interact with our services, you may be asked to provide certain personal information.
For example, when you register or inquire about our services, you will be asked for your contact information. For paid Services, we will require payment information such as your credit card information. You may choose to provide supplementary information about yourself when you register for our services, such as your birth date, gender, income range, interests, the industry you work in, current position, and other demographic information. We collect personal information that you provide when you participate in discussions using our comment feature, engage with us on social media, post an online ad, enter a contest, participate in a promotion, use our event space.

As you use our services, we collect usage information such as the pages you view, product and service preferences, and other customer engagement information. Some information is collected automatically when you visit our website through the use of cookies and similar technologies.
Information that we collect from publicly available sources or third parties
Means & Ways may receive personal information about you from third-party sources, as permitted by law, such as marketing and data analytics databases. Third-party sources provide us with survey data and publicly available data that may include information such as your name, mailing address, phone number, contact information, other demographics, and interests to help us understand our audience and ensure our content and services are relevant. In some cases, the advertisers that serve ads on our Services will share your e-mail or other information with us so that we can make sure their advertisements or offers reach you.

3. Information collected and used when you visit our site

We may collect and analyze information about your use of our site, such as the pages most read, time and duration of use, search terms, and other information about your interaction with the Services. We use this information to provide basic functionality for our Services, evaluate, monitor, and improve our Services, detect fraud, provide you with personalized advertising, offers and promotions.
Analytics: Our sites use web analytics services such as Google Analytics. These providers use cookies to help us analyze how visitors use the sites. For example, with Google Analytics, the information generated by the cookie about your use of the sites (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by a Google server. 4. Service providers, disclosures and information stored abroad
In some cases, Means & Ways will share personal information with service providers to perform activities on our behalf, such as processing payments, maintaining technology and related infrastructure, delivering communications and services, offering you customer service, providing advertising and analytics services, administering contests, surveys, events, promotions, and hosting our data. Our policy is to require such parties, by contractual or other means, to process personal information consistent with the standards set out in this policy. Your personal information may be transferred to our service providers or affiliates located outside of your province, or outside of Canada (including in the United States and the E.U.), for storage and processing.
Business partners
Some of our events, contests, promotions, or surveys may be organized together with one or more third parties. We might share your personal information with such third parties for event management, administration, communication, and analysis purposes, and we will inform you if they will have access to your information. In some cases, you will be asked if you want to share select information (for example, your email address) with the third party, in which case your personal information will be subject to the privacy policy of that third party.
5. Data retention and deletion
We retain your personal information for as long as is necessary to comply with our data retention requirements, to provide you with services, and for our legitimate business operations. Under our data retention requirements, for example, we may be required to retain your information to:

If you would like Means & Ways to delete all or some of the Personal Information that you provide us when you access our Services, please email privacy@meansandways.ca. Please note, even if you make such a request, Means & Ways may retain your personal information in accordance with our retention practices or to continue to provide services to you.
6. Access and correction
You have the right to request access to, to update, and to correct inaccuracies in your personal information in our custody and control, subject to limited exceptions under applicable law. Please email privacy@meansandways.ca.
7. Updates to our privacy policy
Means & Ways may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our personal information practices. If you continue to use our Services after we make changes, you agree to the updated policy. Means & Ways will provide notice of significant changes to the Privacy Policy.

Terms
1. Your use of a service
These terms, along with our privacy policy, apply to your use of any product and/or service offered by Means & Ways (the “Services”). If you are paying a fee for a Service, then you may also have a separate agreement with Means & Ways and/or certain authorized third-parties (such as with financial exchanges).
If you continue to use a Service, then you are deemed to accept the Terms and Conditions and it forms a legally binding agreement between you and Means & Ways. If you do not agree with these Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, or any applicable Agreement, then please do not use the Service.
2. Accessing services
You understand that before accessing a Service, it is your responsibility to take protective measures to guard against computer viruses and other destructive elements, such as through the use of industry standard and updated virus scanning tools, and to ensure that you have a complete, current and secure back-up of information and software on your computer or other devices that you may use to access the Services.
Means & Ways is not responsible for any additional charges that you may incur for using a Service, such as data or other telecommunication or Internet or wireless service provider fees.
3. Types of users and levels of access
There are different types of users of the Services.
Anonymous Users have limits on their access and interactions with the Services. Anonymous Users may not be able to view or access all elements of the Services.
Non-Registered Users have entered their e-mail address to access certain Services (such as newsletter delivery), but still have limits on their access and interactions with the Services.
Registered Users have created a registration account and have enhanced access to certain Services (such as commenting and newsletter delivery) but still have limits on their access and interactions with the Services.
Subscribers may have created a registration account and may pay fees for certain Services. Subscribers have access and privileges with respect to each Service they have subscribed to.
Anonymous Users, Registered Users and Subscribers together are “Users”. All User information is governed by our Privacy Policy.
4. Subscribing to a service
Means & Ways reserves the right to reject a subscription order for a Service at any time.
(a) Subscription agreement
Certain Services and Content will only be provided to you upon your acceptance of a Subscription Agreement with Means & Ways or an authorized third-party. The Subscription Agreement or a link to the Subscription Agreement will be presented to you for your review during the subscription process. Information provided by you to fulfil a subscription order is subject to the Privacy Policy.
(b) Fees
Means & Ways reserves the right to charge fees for access to any Service.
You will not be charged a fee for a Service unless you subscribe to that Service. You must be of the age of majority in your jurisdiction of residence to subscribe to a Service.
The fees for Service (plus any applicable taxes or other additional charges, such as administration, transaction or access fees), accepted methods of payment and accepted frequencies of billing (such as one-time, every four weeks, monthly or annually) will be specified at the time of subscription. All fees, unless otherwise specified, are in Canadian dollars.
For periodic subscriptions to Services, you will be automatically billed (i.e. charged or debited) or invoiced on or around the periodic anniversary date of your subscription to the Service, and periodically thereafter in accordance with the billing cycle selected at the time of purchase. You will be automatically billed (i.e. charged or debited) at the time of purchase for one-time purchases.
You are responsible for providing and maintaining current, complete and accurate billing and delivery information. You must contact Means & Ways immediately with any changes to your billing or delivery information to avoid any interruptions to your Service.
Means & Ways reserves the right to levy an administration charge if your method of payment is invalid (e.g. an expired or otherwise invalid credit card). You will remain responsible for all fees and for all costs incurred by Means & Ways in connection with the unpaid fees, including but not limited to collection agency fees. You authorize us to obtain updated expiration dates if applicable and we reserve the right to charge the fee to the renewal credit cards.
By subscribing to a Service, you agree to pay the subscription fees specified at the time of purchase, using the method of payment chosen, and billed/charged at the frequency provided.
(c) Term
If you subscribe to a Service, your subscription will continue until it is cancelled.
(d) Modification by you
You may make certain changes to your Service, including but not limited to the frequency of billing, delivery dates, products, and other particulars of the Services that you have subscribed to. Refunds, reconciliations and charges will be applied in accordance with the terms specified in these Terms and Conditions or your applicable Subscriber Agreement at the sole discretion of Means & Ways.
(e) Modifications by Means & Ways
You will be given advance notice of any new fees, changes to current fees or other material changes to the Services by notification methods including but not limited to postal mail, email, or the posting of an advertisement or notice on a website or electronic publication of Means & Ways.
If you do not wish to accept the new fees, you may cancel your Service in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or an applicable Subscription Agreement.
If Means & Ways has made, in its sole determination, an error in fees for a Service, your sole remedy is to cancel the Service. Means & Ways is under no obligation to provide you with the Service at the erroneous fee.
(f) Cancellation and refunds
One-time purchases cannot be cancelled or refunded. No refunds will be provided for amounts less than $5 CDN. Means & Ways reserves the right (but is under no obligation) to issue refunds or credits at our sole discretion.
(g) Promotions
Means & Ways may from time to time at our discretion offer promotions such as discounts and trials to certain Services, or certain contests, sweepstakes or other promotions. The specific rules, regulations, terms and details of each promotion will be provided at the time of the offer. Your eligibility for a promotion and the applicability of any discounts is at the sole discretion of Means & Ways. Means & Ways may revoke, terminate, cancel, modify or deem a promotion inapplicable to you at any time.
5. The content — protected by copyright and trade-mark laws
All content on Means & Ways is protected by Canadian and international intellectual property laws and treaties, including copyright and trade-mark laws, and is owned by Means & Ways, licensed to Means & Ways, or otherwise provided by a third-party.
All trade-marks (including, but not limited to, trade names, logos, word and design marks) that appear in the Services are the trade-marks or registered trade-marks of Means & Ways or of their respective owners and are protected from reproduction, dilution and confusing or misleading uses. The use of any trade-mark appearing on any of the Services without the express written consent of the trade-mark owner is strictly prohibited.
6. User-generated content — A licence to Means & Ways
Users may submit articles, letters to the editor, photos, videos, discussion forums, comments and other items to the Services (“user-generated content”). You are solely responsible for your user-generated content. User-generated content must follow the principles outlined in our Community guidelines. Means & Ways reserves the right to remove or refuse to post any user-generated content that we deem in our sole discretion to be unacceptable, undesirable or otherwise in violation of these Terms and Conditions.
You represent and warrant that you are the copyright owner of any user-generated content that you submit to Means & Ways and that you have the unimpaired right to convey all intellectual property rights in and to the user-generated content to Means & Ways. User-generated content must not be created using any pirated or unlicensed content, or other materials that include copyrighted or trade-marked material that Means & Ways would not be entitled to use without a further licences or payment to an intellectual property owner. User-generated content must be created by you (e.g. without the use of AI) and be wholly original.
You grant Means & Ways a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive licence (but not the obligation) to exercise and otherwise use any and all copyrights and other intellectual property rights in the user-generated content, in whole or in part, worldwide in perpetuity, in all media and formats whatsoever, whether now known or created in the future, in connection with and promotion of any work, product or service of Means & Ways and any of its partners and affiliates.
You waive all moral rights in and to the user-generated content in favour of Means & Ways and acknowledge and understand that Means & Ways may edit, remove, modify and add to the user-generated content at its discretion and place the user-generated content on any Service and on any platform without your further consent and without attribution to you.
You grant to Means & Ways the perpetual, irrevocable right to use your name, user name, persona, image, likeness and photograph that you provide in connection with any submission of user-generated content, without any obligation or remuneration to you.
Means & Ways may grant any and all rights granted under these user-generated content terms to any licensee of Means & Ways (including any sublicensee).
7. Licence to use the services and content
You are hereby granted a non-exclusive, limited, non-transferable licence to use, access and view the content and services, as permitted by your user type, for your personal, private and non-commercial use. Unless otherwise permitted by your subscription agreement, you may not use the content or services for any commercial purpose.
Content owned by Means & Ways may be used as permitted by the licensing options and tools associated with the content, including uses such as email, printing, storage, posting, sharing, RSS feeds, linking and republishing.
You may print single copies of content licensed to Means & Ways, but may not otherwise reproduce or use the content. Licensed content is identifiable by the credit line and lack of other licensing options or tools for the content.
You agree to maintain all copyright and other proprietary notices provided on the content, including but not limited to author name and licensor name for third-party licensed content.
All rights are otherwise reserved. You may not modify, sell, resell, make derivative works, create a database, create a media monitoring service, aggregate, deep link, republish, retransmit, distribute, transfer, communicate, broadcast or otherwise make the services and content available, including without limitation, by caching, scraping, harvesting, framing or similar means, without the prior written consent of Means & Ways and its licensors, as applicable.

8. Restrictions on the use of content and services
You acknowledge that Means & Ways has the right, but is under no obligation, to monitor the content, services, and your use of the content or services. You agree that you will not use the Services in an unlawful manner. You acknowledge that Means & Ways may investigate any violations by you of the terms and conditions, privacy policy, community guidelines, any applicable subscription agreement and applicable laws in respect of the services. You agree that Means & Ways may reveal your identity and any user information we have about you to any law enforcement authority in the event of a violation arising from your use of the services or content.
You agree not to use the services and content (including submitting any user-generated content) in any manner that violates the following restrictions:
is defamatory, libellous, offensive, abusive, stalking, threatening, demeaning, obscene, promotes hatred, bigotry, racism, sexism, harassment, discrimination, is pornographic, indecent, unlawful, profane, harmful to minors, false, misleading, would constitute spam, promotes, advocates or otherwise encourages illegal activities including activities that would constitute a criminal offense or give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate the legal rights of others;
infringe any intellectual property rights including copyrights, trade-marks, proprietary rights, privacy rights, publicity rights or any other rights of any kind whatsoever;
promote commercial activities, such as to conduct sales of goods and services of any kind, promote charitable donations, or participation in sweepstakes and contests, whether by advertising, solicitations, links or any other form of communication, without the prior written consent of Means & Ways;
contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy, circumvent, disable, replicate, damage or otherwise limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment, including without limitation, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, computer viruses, code, cancelbots or corrupted files;use any spider, robot, other automatic device or manual process to monitor, harvest or copy the Content of the Services without the express written consent of Means & Ways;
violate or attempt to violate the security of the Services or Content, including without limitation accessing data not intended for you, logging into a registration account you are not authorized to access, attempting to probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Services, information technology systems or network or to breach security authorizations;
take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the infrastructure of the Services;use Content or Services for developing other products or services (e.g. software), including, but not limited to, training a machine learning or artificial intelligence (AI) system; or
create a substitute for the Services or Content, meaning any product or service that diminishes the need for users or third-parties to access the Services or Content via Means & Ways or reduces Means & Ways’ ability to generate revenues from the services or content.

9. Disclaimers
(a) Content and professional information content
The content (including any facts, views, opinions, recommendations, description of or references to products, services and securities) is provided to you for general information, educational and entertainment purposes only. The content is not necessarily reflective of the views or policies of Means & Ways, including the publisher, contributors, staff or advertisers.
Means & Ways does not endorse the quality, reliability, or accuracy of the content. Information changes rapidly and some content may be out of date, such as share price information or “real-time” quotes. The content is not to be used or construed as an offer to sell, a solicitation of an offer to buy, or an endorsement, recommendation, or sponsorship of an entity or security by Means & Ways. Third-party content is not under the control of Means & Ways. Third-party content is provided to you for general information purposes only. Means & Ways does not endorse third-party content.
Means & Ways is not responsible or liable for the content, accuracy, relevancy, legality or decency of material contained on third-party websites. Means & Ways will not be responsible or liable in any way for any loss or damage incurred by you in connection with your use or reliance on third-party content. Means & Ways is not liable for errors, omissions or delays in third-party content.
You should direct any concerns you have regarding third-party content to the third-party.
10. Limitation of liability
You expressly understand and agree that in no event will Means & Ways be responsible or liable to you or anyone else (jointly or severally) for any claim, loss or damage whatsoever, including without limitation any direct, indirect, incidental, exemplary, special, punitive or consequential damages or any damages for loss of profits, savings, revenue, goodwill, business interruption, loss of information or data or other intangible losses, arising from, or in any way connected with the services or content, including the performance, use of, access to, or the inability to use and access the same, regardless of whether Means & Ways had been advised of or could have foreseen the possibility of such claim, loss or damage.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Means & Ways and each of its respective officers, directors, affiliates, business partners, employees, agents, licensors and all third parties mentioned on the Services and Content from and against any and all claims, actions, losses or demands, including without limitation reasonable legal and accounting fees, resulting from or related to: your breach of these terms and conditions or a subscription agreement if applicable; your access and use of the services and content; your use or reliance on the services and content; your publication, communication, distribution or transmission otherwise of the services or content; or your violation of any law or regulation. You will use your best efforts to cooperate with Means & Ways in the defense of any claim. Means & Ways reserves the right, at its own expense, to assume the exclusive defence and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you.
12. Termination by Means & Ways
Means & Ways provides services at its sole discretion. Means & Ways may at any time revise, withdraw, discontinue, amend, suspend any or all of the services, with or without notice to you as provided in these terms and conditions or your subscription agreement. Under no circumstances will Means & Ways be held responsible or liable for removing, disabling or restricting access to the availability of the services.
Means & Ways reserves the right to terminate or otherwise suspend your registration account and/or subscription to any services at any time for any reason whatsoever, including but not limited to for convenience, non-payment of service fees, or for any other breach of these terms and conditions, a subscription agreement, or other guidelines, without notice to you.
You acknowledge that upon the termination or suspension of your registration and/or subscription account you will no longer have access to any user-generated content, files or data associated with your account and that Means & Ways has no obligation to retain any such data post-termination.
Any termination or suspension will be in addition and without prejudice to any rights or remedies as may be available to Means & Ways, including injunction and other equitable remedies. All disclaimers, limitation of liability and indemnity provisions of these Terms and Conditions will survive termination. The disclaimers and limitations of liability provided in these Terms and Conditions, and these form an essential basis of the bargain between you and Means & Ways and will survive and continue to apply in the case of fundamental breach or breaches, the failure of essential purpose of these terms, the failure of any exclusive remedy, or the termination of the relationship between you and Means & Ways.
13. Jurisdiction
Means & Ways is located in Canada. If you are accessing the Services and Content outside Canada, you are responsible for using the services and content in accordance with the laws of your jurisdiction.
These terms and conditions will be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without reference to its conflict of laws principles.
You agree that in the event of a dispute arising out of these terms and conditions, the laws of the Province of Ontario will apply. Any cause of action that you may have must be commenced within one (1) year after the claim or cause of action arises, except where prohibited by applicable law.
You may not export any Services or Content in violation of applicable export laws and regulations. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply to these terms and conditions.

Means & Ways welcomes feedback. Any feedback, suggestions, ideas or other information that you provide to Means & Ways regarding the performance, features, functionality or other aspects of services and content (“feedback”) will be owned by Means & Ways and may be used by Means & Ways without restriction and without compensation to you. You understand that under no circumstances will your feedback be subject to an obligation of confidentiality by Means & Ways, that you are providing feedback without an expectation of compensation, that the feedback is wholly original to you and that you waive any and all rights that you may have in the feedback in favour of Means & Ways.
Community guidelines
The Means & Ways community is shaped by readers, and it’s up to you to help make a safe destination for intelligent, insightful and respectful conversation. We understand that debate can get spirited (the best ones do) and some news stories rightfully provoke anger and frustration. But please argue fairly, be constructive, avoid personal attacks and stay on topic. In short, treat others as you expect to be treated among company in real life. Means & Ways is committed to protecting its community.
Commenting
By default, all comments are closed on stories. Occasionally, Means & Ways will open up commenting on certain topics or stories to allow for engaged dialogue. These comments are moderated. Means & Ways reserves the right to not post comments that go against our community guidelines, are not thoughtful or not on topic. We want to encourage thoughtful, solutions-based discussions.
What kinds of comments are not tolerated?
Personal attacks: Attacks against Means & Ways staff and contributors, other subscribers and the subjects of Means & Ways articles will be removed. Name-calling, threats, verbal abuse and doxxing are not tolerated. Doxxing will automatically result in a ban. Spam: Do not flood the community with multiple messages that say the same thing. Messages promoting your business, project or a special deal will not be allowed to be posted. Trolling: Stay relevant and on topic. Purposely trying to derail a conversation or post inflammatory comments is not tolerated.
Racism, sexism and other discrimination:
Attacking a group of people or making broad statements against groups is not tolerated. Hate speech is not tolerated. Advocating violence: Explicit or implied calls to violence, including incitement to kill someone, whether a public figure, a private individual reported on in an article, or a Means & Ways journalist, will not be tolerated.
Illegal activities:
Do not make libellous statements or comments that include false or unsubstantiated allegations. If the legality of your comment is in question, it will be not be posted. Moderation complaints: These fall under off-topic and are unlikely to result in a resolution. Please report moderation complaints to news@meansandways.ca. Offensive usernames: If your username includes words that are offensive or abusive, your account will be blocked.
How are comments moderated?
If you do not see your comment posted immediately, it is being reviewed by the moderation team and may appear shortly, generally within two hours. We aim to have all comments reviewed in a timely manner. Comments that violate the community guidelines will not be posted. Sometimes comments are mistakenly rejected, and some comments that violate the community guidelines are approved. If you feel that a comment of yours or a comment you have read falls into one of these categories, please contact news@meansandways.ca.
