Another port strike?

If global politics were not enough to dampen the mood, Canadian business is bracing for the potential of another major port strike that could disrupt the Canadian economy in a big way.

According to the Montreal Gazette, federal mediators have been brought into talks between the Maritime Employers Association in Montreal and dock workers in a bid to reach agreement on a new deal.

Trudeau was asked about the potential for a strike during an event Tuesday in Montreal, reiterating his government’s long-held position that a negotiated settlement is the preferred outcome.

Canada is still reeling from a 13-day strike in July at ports in British Columbia that caused billions in damages to the Canadian economy, and from which the region’s ports have yet to recover.
