Baby boomers, international migration and labour force growth

What happens after the baby boomers retire? That’s the title of a new report by analysts at Statistics Canada. The report looks at labour force growth over the next couple of decades.

Their base case is that the labour force growth rate from 2023 to 2041 will be 1.17 per cent, which is only slightly lower than what was observed over the last two decades (1.21 per cent).

The conclusion: international migration will limit any potential impact of an aging workforce.
