Alex Panetta of CBC News explains why a U.S. Senator is accusing Canada of breaking its promise to block imports of products made by forced labour and to keep those goods from entering the continent as part of the new North American trade agreement. Oregon Democrat Sen. Jeff Merkley wrote the U.S. legislation creating a list of products allegedly made in forced re-education camps in China's Xinjiang region — primarily clothing, food and electronics. He said there has been a surge in enforcement in the U.S., but suggested that Canada could be a “back door” for the goods entering the continent.
