Premiers call on Trudeau to stay in his lane: CBC

Canadian premiers meeting in Nova Scotia this week are calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to stop taking unilateral actions in provincial jurisdiction.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, who is hosting the Council of the Federation meeting, released a joint letter from the group calling on more cooperation between the two levels of government.

“We are asking you to work with us in a true partnership to revitalize cooperative federalism in Canada,’’ according to a letter signed by Houston and posted on the Federation’s website. “We hope this letter will serve as an invitation to engage with Premiers on ways to renew our relationship so that we can collectively deliver for Canadians. Canadians expect their governments to work together.”

The two-day meeting begins Tuesday. Here is a report from Catharine Tunney of CBC previewing the gathering.
