Rail companies start to halt certain shipments as lockout threat looms: CP
The country's two main railways have begun halting shipments ahead of a possible strike or lockout next week. Canadian National Railway Co. has started embargoing hazardous goods from the U.S., including chlorine, ammonia, and other toxic or explosive materials, in anticipation of a work stoppage.
Last week, the two railways warned they will lock out 9,300 workers on Aug. 22 if contract talks on scheduling and wages fail. Shippers warn that a work stoppage would disrupt freight traffic and the supply chain.
