Cargo shipments rerouted due to risk of Montreal port strike
The Canadian Press reports that fears of a strike at a Montreal port have prompted some cargo firms to begin rerouting freight shipments. This month the Canada Industrial Relations Board rejected a request from Montreal port employers to require employees to work during a strike, opening the door to possible job action or a lockout. The dockworkers’ union represents about 1,200 Montreal port employees whose collective agreement expired in December.
