Economists are warning that Canada is at risk of missing out on a historic opportunity to attract billions in U.S. investment dollars that could instead go to Mexico. Reuters reporter Promit Mukherjee says Mexico is becoming a destination of choice for U.S. companies looking for suppliers close to home – a trend called “nearshoring” to reduce reliance on China. Canada could lose out because of low productivity whereas Mexico offers lower labour and other input costs.
