The long-awaited Trans Mountain pipeline expansion officially opens this week, bringing jobs and an economic boost to Fort McMurray and surrounding communities. The megaproject, which cost $34 billion to build, will expand capacity from 300,000 barrels a day to 890,000 a day. As Amanda Stephenson of the Canadian Press reports, the pipeline expansion is expected to breathe new life into a region that has endured a decade of layoffs, oil company consolidations and heavy destruction to homes and buildings caused by wildfire and flooding.
