Colin Butler of CBC News reports on how the economic forces that transformed residential real estate over the last two decades are reshaping agriculture - and making the prospect of owning farmland out of reach for many younger Canadians. In some parts of southwestern Ontario, for example, values for farmland jumped by about 60 per cent between 2020 and 2023. Instead of younger generation farmers purchasing land, it is being bought up by institutional investors who see it as a safe financial bet and a buffer against inflation and stock market volatility.
