After 12 years and a $34-billion price tag, the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion will start shipping oil today, tripling the flow of crude from Alberta to the west coast. As Nia Williams from Reuters reports, the expanded capacity is expected to boost the sale price of oil for Canadian producers and lift Canada’s GDP with increased access to Asian markets. The project completion likely comes as a relief for the Liberal government, which has taken heat for construction delays and ballooning costs.
