During Trudeau’s nine years in office, Canada’s civil service grew 43 per cent, compared with less than 15 per cent growth in the country’s overall population, according to a report by Global’s David Akin, who cites Treasury Board data. The departments that reflect Trudeau's policy priorities, such as Immigration, Infrastructure, Public Services and Procurement Canada, the CRA and Gender Equality saw the biggest increases, Akin said, adding the bureaucracy that serves the prime minister, the Privy Council Office, has also expanded “dramatically.” Those employed tend to live in Quebec and Ontario, near the national capital region, though Atlantic Canada has also seen some of the growth, according to the report.
