Apple buys Canadian AI start-up

Bloomberg News reports that Apple has bought a Canadian artificial intelligence start-up as it works to “break new ground” on AI this year. Waterloo, Ont.-based DarwinAI has mainly developed technologies to visually inspect components during the manufacturing process, but one of its core technologies makes AI systems run faster and more efficiently. Even though Apple has acquired more AI companies than most rivals in the last decade, it has fallen behind others like Google and Microsoft Corp. in the generative AI market.
