Competition Bureau expands investigation scope of Google’s online ad practices in Canada

Abigail Adriatico of Canadian Lawyer magazine reports that the Competition Bureau is expanding the scope of its investigation into Google’s online advertising practices in Canada. The Bureau obtained a Federal Court order to gather more information to advance its ongoing probe into whether the tech giant engaged in practices that “harm competition” related to display ads for website visitors and apps users. It will also look into whether Google’s practices affected the success of competitors, resulted in higher prices, reduced choices or suppressed innovation. The Bureau began its investigation in 2020.
