Some of the winners and losers in the 2024 federal budget

Every budget draws cheers and jeers from those affected by new spending or tax measures. The Canadian Press says small businesses are likely cheering a carbon tax rebate which will put about 600,000 small firms in line for a share of $2.5 billion; cellphone and internet users are also applauding a promise to make it easier to switch plans and get better rates. Among those who are likely grumpy about the budget are tobacco and vaping companies that will face new taxes, and concert goers, who got a pledge from the feds to work with provinces to crack down on ticket resellers, but no specific enforcement measures or deadlines.
