Trade war support programs more geared to companies than workers, economists say

Recent federal and Ontario support programs to offset trade war impacts appear more focused on helping businesses than workers, The Globe and Mail reported, citing economists. Ontario’s $11-billion package includes $9-billion in tax deferrals and $2-billion in WSIB rebates, the Globe says. Federally, corporate tax deferrals and expanded Work-Sharing programs have been introduced, while PM Mark Carney pledged tariff revenues would support auto workers—though details are pending, the newspaper reported.
